SSC Eligibility Criteria
The most common SSC eligibility criteria for the exams are educational qualification, age limits
and citizenship. The SSC exam age limit for most of the exams is a minimum of 18 years to a
maximum of 32 years.

Exam Eligibility Criteria
SSC CGL – Combined Graduate Level
Candidate needs to be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan
Candidate can also be a Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before January 1, 1962
Minimum age should be 18 years and maximum should be 32 years (age criteria depends on the
post)
Educational Qualifications:
For the post of Assistant Accounts or Audit Officer, candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree
from any recognised institute or university
For the post of a Junior Statistical Officer, the candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in any
discipline from a recognised university/institute
One of the degree-level subjects needs to be Mathematics or statistics
The candidate needs a minimum of 60% marks in the 12th standard
For other posts, candidates need a Bachelor’s degree from any recognised institute or university
SSC GD – Constable, General Duty
Candidate needs to be a citizen of India
Minimum age should be 18 years and maximum should be 23 years
Candidate must have passed 10th standard from any recognised board
SSC CHSL – Combined Higher Secondary Level
Candidate needs to be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan. The candidate can also
be a Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before January 1, 1962,
Minimum age should be 18 years and the maximum should be 27 years
Candidate must have passed the 12th standard from any recognised board.
SSC JE – Junior Engineer
Candidate needs to be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan
Candidate can also be a Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before January 1, 1962
Age Limits:
Border Road Organisation: maximum 30 years of age
Central Public Works Department: maximum 30 years of age
Central Water and Power Research Station:maximum 30 years of age
Central Water Commission: maximum 32 years of age
Directorate of Quality Assurance– Naval: maximum 30 years of age
Farakka Barrage Project: maximum 30 years of age
Military Engineer Services: maximum 30 years of age
National Technical Research: maximum 30 years of age
Educational Qualifications:
For JE (Civil) Border Roads Organisation, Ministry of Defence, the candidate needs a degree in
Civil Engineering from a recognised institution or university
The candidate can also have a three-year diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised
institute, board, or university or two years of working experience in execution, planning or
maintenance of any Civil Engineering work
For JE (Mechanical and Electrical) Border Roads Organisation, Ministry of Defence, the
candidate should have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from any
recognised institution or university
The candidate can also have a diploma for three years of study in automobile, electrical, or
mechanical engineering from any recognised institute, board, or university. If the candidate has a
diploma, they need two years of experience in the planning, execution, or maintenance of
mechanical or electrical engineering works
For JE (Civil) CPWD, the candidate should have a diploma in Civil Engineering from any
recognised institute or university
For JE (electrical) CPWD, the candidate needs to have a diploma in either Mechanical
Engineering or in Electrical Engineering from a recognised institute
For JE (Civil) Central Water Power Research Station, the candidate needs to have a diploma in
Civil Engineering diploma from any recognised university or institution
For JE (Electrical) Central Water Power Research Station, the candidate needs a diploma in
Electrical Engineering from any recognised institution
For JE (Mechanical) Central Water Power Research Station, the candidate needs a diploma in
Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institute
For JE (Civil) Central Water Commission, the candidate needs a degree or diploma in Civil
Engineering from any recognised institution or university
For JE (Mechanical) Central Water Commission, the candidate should have a degree or a
diploma in Mechanical Engineering from any recognised institution
For JE (Mechanical) Directorate of Quality Assurance (Naval), the candidate should have a
degree in Mechanical Engineering from any recognised institution
The candidate can also have a three-year Mechanical Engineering diploma
But then the candidate will need to show at least two years of experience
For JE (Electrical) Directorate of Quality Assurance (Naval), the candidate should have a degree
in Electrical Engineering from any recognised university
The candidate can also have a diploma of three years in Electrical Engineering from any
recognised institute or university along with two years of experience
For JE (Civil) Farakka Barrage Project, the candidate should have a diploma in Civil Engineering
diploma from any recognised institute, board, or university
For JE (Electrical) Farakka Barrage Project, the candidate needs to have a diploma in Electrical
Engineering from any recognised institute or university or board
For JE (Mechanical) Farakka Barrage Project, the candidate needs to have a diploma in
Mechanical Engineering from any recognised institute, board or university
For JE (Civil) MES, the candidate needs to have a degree in Civil Engineering from any
recognised University or a diploma for three years study of Civil Engineering diploma from any
recognised board, university, or institute
If the candidate has a diploma, proof of two-year experience in execution, planning, and
maintenance of Civil Engineering works is necessary
For JE (Mechanical and electrical) MES, the candidate should have a degree in Mechanical or
Electrical Engineering from a recognised university
The candidate can also have a three-year diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from
any recognised university, board, or institute
The candidate will have to show two years experience in the execution, maintenance, and
planning of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering works
For JE (Civil) National Technical Research Organisation, the candidate should have a diploma in
Civil Engineering from a recognised institution or university
For JE (Electrical) National Technical Research Organisation, the candidate needs to have a
diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognised institution or university
For JE (Mechanical) National Technical Research Organisation, the candidate should have a
diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution or university
SSC CPO – Central Police Organisation
Candidate needs to be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan
Minimum age should be 20 years and the maximum should be 25 years
Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree from any recognised institution
SSC MTS – Multitasking Staff
Candidate needs to be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan
Candidate can also be a Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before January 1, 1962
Minimum age should be 18 years and the maximum should be 25 years
Candidate must have passed 10th standard or an equivalent examination from any recognised
board
SSC Stenographer ‘C’ and ‘D’
Candidate needs to be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan
Candidate can also be a Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before January 1, 1962
Age limit:
For Grade C, minimum age should be 18 years and maximum should be 30 years
For Grade D, minimum age should be 18 years and maximum should be 27 years
Candidate must have passed 12th standard or an equivalent examination from any recognised
board
SSC JHT – Junior Hindi Translator
Candidate needs to be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan
Candidate can also be a Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before January 1, 1962
Minimum age should be 18 years and maximum should be 30 years
Educational Qualifications: For posts A to D, candidates need to have any of the following
qualifications.
A Master’s degree from any recognised University in Hindi
English should be an elective or compulsory paper
It can also be the exam medium at degree-level
A Master’s degree from a recognised university in English
Hindi should be an elective or compulsory paper
It can also be the exam medium at degree-level
A Master’s degree from a recognised university in any subject other than Hindi or English
But both Hindi and English should be electives or compulsory papers They can also be the exam
medium at degree-level
A certificate or diploma in Hindi to English translation and or two-year experience in translation
work in any State or Central Government Office.
